How to Get a U Mobile Invitation

A new mobile network in Asia, U mobile is recently getting buzz from A list bloggers in the Philippines. U mobile is a mobile community for individuals in the 15 to 35 age bracket and is set to be operational by June 2008. What makes u mobile intriguing is the fact that it operates differently from other Philippine mobile networks like smart, sun and globe. U mobile is ad supported and users earn rewards and loads for viewing ads.

The only challenge with joining the network is that joining it is only through invitation. Members can give out invitation to their friends but how do you get a U mobile invitation if you do not have a friend who is already part of this network? Here are tips on how to get a u mobile invitation:

  1. Join u mobile events and search for the code givers who give invitation codes for free
  2. Check out the U mobile website. U mobile is currently giving away 500 invitation codes in their website
  3. Check out blogs of u mobile members. Some bloggers who are already members of u mobile give out invitation codes. You might want to leave a comment in their site and ask them to give you an invitation code.

Prepaid wireless broadband from Smart

Smart has introduced another wireless broadband service to Fiipinos who are gradually becoming dependent on internet access, SmartBro Prepaid. SmartBro Prepaid is a lot similar to the smart plug and surf only that Smartbro prepaid does not have monthly fees. The rate for using this wireless prepaid broadband service is P10 per 30 minutes of internet use.

The Smart broadband prepaid kit costs PhP 4500 and is inclusive of one and a half hour worth of internet access load. I believe that this also comes with the Smart BRO USB modem which will be used to plug into the laptop’s USB port to connect to the world wide web. Reloading can also be reportedly done by buying credits from smart load retailers. Speed is reportedly up to 384 kbps in areas with 3G coverages.

Smart claims this can be used nationwide but I wonder if this smart prepaid wireless broadband will work if I go to the boondocks. I mean will the broadband work in areas without 3G coverages? I still need to get out of the house to call when I go to some remote places in the provinces that I go to sometimes. I wonder if I can use the prepaid broadband in those areas.

Filipinos Send One Billion Text Messages Per Day

It is no wonder that many consider the Philippines as the text capital of the world. Filipinos are avid users of the SMS (short messaging system). Every Filipino seems to own a cellphone from the dollar earning OFWs to household helpers earning around PhP 2000 a month ($50,000). The Philippines has again put a stronghold in it being called the world’s “text capital” as one billion text messages were reportedly sent everyday in 2007.

Yahoo tech news “Filipinos sent 1 billion text messages daily in 2007″ reported that PLDT (or smart?) has accommodated an average of 700-750 million text messages daily last year while Globe claimed to have sent 300-400 million text messages in its network.

Sim cards in the Philippines can be bought for as low as PhP 50 (just over one dollar) and refurbished or auctioned cellphones can be bought for at least PhP 1500 (approximately 40 dollars).
