Updated August 9: The official price of globe for the 3G iphone plan is as follows:

price of iphone 3G in the Philippines released through Globe Telecom

The prepaid price of the 8GB 3G iphone is P41,899 and and the 16GB costs P48,899.

Those who want to avail the iphone from Globe may reserve for it now as the release date in the Philippines is scheduled August 22. Those who want to pay for the iphone through 0% 12 month installment may use the Citibank and HSBC credit cards. Check out the globe site for more details.

I was checking the philmug forum today and I realized the iphone 3G may not be much cheaper than the first generation iphone. The speculated price of iphone 3G in the Philippines by some of the forum posters is between 20 to 25 thousand pesos. The price may even reach as high as 30 thousand pesos for those who want to purchase the new iphone under prepaid plans.

The US market price of the new iphone starts at 199 dollars but this will be under a contract with AT&T. The iphone 3G will be officially released by Globe Telecoms and will be made available for both prepaid and postpaid globe users. Knowing how expensive cellphones from Globe are, I am not yet sure if I can afford to buy the new iphone 3G.

I personally see that iPhone 3G 8GB would be priced between 8K-12K 16GB would be between 13K-17K.

Wow Yohanz, that is really cheap! This means that there really is an iphone 3G blackmarket. Gee… I hope I can find one that sells for less than 300 dollars, I checked out ebay.ph and the locked iphones cost 50,000 pesos!!

    Hi Archie,

The prices I have mentioned above are just speculations. Globe is offering the iphone 3g to prepaid users which explains the price. Maybe Globe can subsidize for the cost of the iphone 3g but only for those subscribers paying more than $100 a month. Unfortunately, many Globe post paid subscribers are under 50 dollars a month. We even have this 100 peso a month subscription, (thats around 3 dollars).

I am one of the lucky ones who bought an iPhone on the day of release here in Washington DC area (July 11). I had to pre-order my phone and it arrived 3 days later. People who waited the next day (July 12) will now wait between 21 – 30 days for their phone. And the backlog keeps growing. I hope you guys get the iPhone out there in the Philippines sometime this year. I doubt. The inventory has depleted and more people here in the US (their largest market) want one and are not getting any. The new iPhone 3G is like no other. It’s unfortunate you guys pay a fortune for this. Why can’t Globe subsidize the price for you guys the way AT&T did ours, I wonder?

I honestly believe that the iphone 3G will not be sold for less than 20 k here in the Philippines. See this post http://cantalktech.com/2008/06/28/price-of-iphone-3g-in-the-philippines/

I hear you! And totally agree with how things are being promoted the cost for the 2nd gen iphone would equal the 1st iphone.

We still need to wait and see as what would happen, crossing my fingers that it would be affordable or rather reasonable.
